From the familiar sandpaper to precision diamond grinding wheels used in industry, abrasives are everywhere. Abrasives are made from a variety of natural and man-made materials and appear in a vast array of products that are an obscure, but essential, part of contemporary life. Abrasive products include grinding wheels, sanding belts, sandpaper, lapping compounds, deburring media, wear resistant coatings and to the ever present computer chip (silicon carbide is an abrasive which is used as an insulator). Like chemicals, valves and ball bearings, abrasives are a basic tool for the manufacturing industry and must be viewed as a commodity in its own right in order to understand the industry as a whole.

Traditionally, abrasives have had a low-tech image among both the public and personnel in industry, but research on the use of abrasives in laboratories and companies around the world has extended abrasives knowledge and ushered in new age for abrasives applications. Abrasives are a key part in the manufacturing of hard drives and other computer components that require precision processes with measurements in nanometers. New 100,000-mile warranties on cars are possible because critical engine components are machined using grinding wheels and coated abrasives to achieve very tight tolerances and fine finishes. Cutting tools such saws, knives, milling cutters, can now be sharpened to much keener edges than were possible in the past. This requires an understanding of how abrasives generate special surface characteristics that can produce the ultimate cutting edge or the highest surface finish. Expensive machinery and expensive tooling in the final analysis is totally dependent on abrasives to deliver a good cutting edge or a superior finish .As industry pushes to make more use of composites and other difficult- to-grind or sand materials, abrasives offer the only acceptable and affordable solution for production applications.

Postle – Owen's focus has been totally given to abrasives and abrasive products. We offer not only products but design services, technical information,  and on-site inventory management programs. Postle - Owen has kept pace with the rapid changes and advances in material science creating new abrasives and improving existing abrasives .We can provide to those end users or supply integrators a service for classifying abrasive products into readily understood manufacturing or supplier terminology for ease of implementing direct procurement or integrated supply processes insuring product selection accuracy. Today's marketplace is rich with abrasive product offerings, but products must be selected carefully to satisfy a company's growing need for better productivity and higher quality. The abrasives market is a complex array of companies and technologies often shrouded in secrecy because of the highly competitive nature of this industry, creating confusion for the untrained.   Undefined distribution channels, unclear technical information and marketing jargon can   often lead to poor product selection resulting in inferior quality or lost production.   Postle – Owens’ abrasive expertise and long affiliations with most of the leading manufactures, allows us to provide to our clients a channel for custom designed products for specialized applications (often from stock) and from their choice of manufacturers as well as standard or general purpose items in a fast, uncomplicated manner and on any platform, conventional or electronic.
